someday...

Someday this kid is going to do great things. Someday his determination is going to serve him well. Someday he will use his passion for justice for good. Someday he will stop having tantrums.

I thought by age 5.5 we would be done with tantrums. Evidently not. Evidently, not being allowed to sit in the stroller for the two block walk home is cause for a 1.5 hour tantrum. One. Point. Five. Hours.

Not sitting in the stroller is nothing new. We never let him sit in it. I guess after a fun-filled day in the city he was tired. Hence the tantrum. For, let me say it again, 1.5 hours.

Sigh.

I love him. I love his determination. I love his passion. I love his sense of justice. I'm just going to keep remembering the good so I don't have to remember the screaming, yelling, stomping, crying, and sobbing.

Did I mention the 1.5 hours?

nana would say he is deprived

So, it's clear we don't have a microwave. This was the conversation had while packing lunches this morning:

Me: Are you OK with cold Chinese noodles in your lunch?
J: That's fine. We have one of those boxes that warms up food in our classroom.

For the record, we used to have one. We just don't have enough counter space at the moment. We don't miss it, either.

Look what you find when you finally upload pictures from your camera. You find a great one of the kids and their godmother in Seattle...

more quotes

J, talking to a friend of mine last week: My dad's birthday is Friday and we are getting him underpants.

Today, outside Kung Fu, where a dying pigeon was seen floundering near the door:
Heidi (a friend of mine): Maybe the pigeon got hurt.
C (Heidi's son): Maybe it is old and dying.
J: My mom is 37.

the latest

This kid. He keeps me on my toes. Maybe I need to pay better attention to him. Especially when he is being really, really quite like he was tonight. I walked into the kitchen to find this:

Those are oats. An entire can of them. (You know, those big, tall, family size ones.) He's singing Happy Birthday. And making a cake.

And let me just say, for the record, that as much as I felt like I should admonish him for this, he was a) really, really cute, b) totally occupied and therefore c) staying out of any other sort of trouble that he can cause in a flash. Hence, the video.

longest. day. ever.

The highlight was when Z peed on all the books on the bottom of the bookshelf...

Thank goodness for Mr. D who came home and whisked the kids out to get burgers so I could have an hour of quiet. That man. He's great.
